3 Days Full of Memories

Finally, the day of the event had come. How did we feel?๐Ÿ‘€ I was nervous to meet the kids at Nuri because we had expected that there will be 67 of them, however, due to the school holiday some of them probably were having other programmes elsewhere so the total had become 25. At first, I was thinking ‘can I handle all these kids?’ or ‘can I handle my own group?’… ๐Ÿ˜…I do not know how to communicate with them, and I don’t have any little sister or little brother at home. As I have mentioned before, being around kids could be challenging for me because I have no experience at all.๐Ÿ’”

23/3/2018 -- On the first day of the event, everyone had to bring their cleaning tools from UM to Nuri, as for today, we will be having a ‘gotong-royong’ at Nuri.๐Ÿ™† We went there by 2 vans and a Hilux car. Once we had arrived, I could see the children at Nuri were looking at us with a straight face, probably curious of what will we be doing at their place.๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Bringing them to gather in group is also a bit challenging, as none of us know their respective names, but it went under control after the ice breaking. Of course, it will be hard to remember their names as this is the first time we met, but in some time, I will, as I am assigned to be the 1st group facilitator so there goes the responsibility to take care of my group.๐Ÿ’ช

The ‘gotong-royong’ went on and our group required to clean the tent area. The children at Nuri were kind enough to be helping us do the job and we finished just in time. After that, we had our prayers, lunch together and played some game with the children. Being one of the facilitators, I need to gather them into the group and do fun activities planned in the tentative. Today, I handled the prayer slot, by telling them to get ready before we start praying together and then spread the payer mat. The day ended with our gathering to listen to the children's feedback on our activities today. We call it a day and went back to UM at 8:45pm with a tired face but it was a satisfaction being at Nuri.๐Ÿ˜Š

24/3/2018The second day had all of us exhausted from yesterday’s activities.๐Ÿ˜ต  Most of us did not have enough sleep probably for doing preparations for today’s fun activities. The day started with a morning exercise and healthy breakfast. I had fun helping the kids in the ‘art and design’ segment and teaching the little kids on techniques in handling the glue and coloured papers. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Later, I was pleased to be able to give them bits of advice in the ‘group motivational talk’ as many of them asked questions on how do we study and manage time, despite the hectic life in University Malaya. After that, we had ‘drawing relay’ game, ‘learning Mandarin’, ‘explorace’ and outdoor games. During the explorace, as a facilitator we need to watch the children and guide them to move in groups, but unable to give them hints for the game as it was in the rule. My favourite activity for today was ‘explorace’ because it made me contented in seeing the children working hard as a team, plus, my Group 1 had won the first place and it makes me happy as they did their best for each games together.๐Ÿ˜† Later, before going back to UM, I was so touched when the Nuri Children did their ‘dikir barat’ performance.๐Ÿ˜

25/3/2018It’s the last day at Nuri. How did time flies so fast?๐Ÿ˜ญ Once we had arrived, I could see the kids being excited as compared to the first day.๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐Ÿ˜†Probably thinking on many fun activities will be held today. As usual, we started the day with a gathering of groups and morning exercises. Next, we taught them a little bit of English and sang a song together, sitting in a group. Being a facilitator, we need to guide them in making ‘origami’ of frogs and butterflies. I helped the children in my group to fold the paper correctly, or else it won't be the best origami.๐Ÿ˜Š We did practice in groups for the closing ceremony performance and the children showed a great interest in it.๐Ÿ˜„

However, during late evening the rain started pouring down heavily๐Ÿ’ฆ so we cannot do the closing ceremony at the beautifully-decorated-tent.๐Ÿ˜ฏ Therefore, it was held inside Nuri house. At this time, not many of Nuri kids were present because some of them went for a place to perform their ‘dikir barat’. Only after the closing ceremony ended, they had returned but I could see their tired and sad faces, ๐Ÿ˜ญmaybe knowing we need to say goodbye as this is the last day at Nuri.๐Ÿ˜ฉ The rain had also stopped just in time we had to bid farewell to Nuri kids.๐Ÿ˜ญSome of us even cried. I remember the first day it was futher than this situation, we had improved in everything, especially in making connections with the Nuri childrens. And also, they were happy with us. Lastly, we had taken many pictures together and then returned to UM with a heavy heart.๐Ÿ’•
