It's Event Time!!!

DAY 1
Ouchhhhhh an early wake-up at 5.30am..... Feeling so reluctant to wake up because I slept at 1.00am of the day, as I helped Ming Hui to do origami - butterflies which will be used as decoration materials for closing ceremony. However, I'd forced myself to get up from the comfortable beddd.......
We departed a bit late from Bioinformatics building to our destination - NURI home. Upon reaching there, we greeted courteously to the person-in-charge. Then, we gathered all the children there. It was quite shocked to see the number of children present, roughly about 20 children, as we were told the total number of children in NURI home will be 67 people. However, small number of children was not a bad thing at all, as we might control the situation better......... Hahaha!! Firstly we have self-introduction session. After that we have gotong-royong. I helped in sweeping the floor and mopping the floor. I was amazed by the volunteerism by Amir and Hazimin as they helped in cleaning the toilet... It's not an easy decision that can be made by me, and I think the same for the others too.
The day was not as smooth as planned. The children were out of our control, as we didn't communicate much with the children. And..... Dr. Arpah was not looking good.... Ouchhh......
And then the night when we reached KK5, we had our post mortem....
Everyone was tired but we still have to face the truth. The day was really not going well. All of us were seemed blur, not knowing what was the event after each. All of us were down, listened to the comments by Dr. Arpah, conveyed by Rehana.... Each of us also told what improvements should be made among ourselves. Then, finally we got back to our room around 11.30pm....

DAY 2
A day same as the previous. Reluctant to wake up.
However, the day started off with punctuality. We departed from KK5 on time - 7am sharp. And upon reaching NURI, surprised!!!!!!! The children were waiting eagerly for our arrival. We were greeted warmly and friendly by them. Cute!!! The day was enlightened by their welcome. Not only that, we carried out all the activities as planned punctually. During the day, I found Shazrul is really an awesome leader. He's really good in lifting people's spirit and drawing attention from the children. He had lead us in senaman pagi well and happily. I could see every child had a smile on their face, while trying hard to follow the steps in the fast rhythm.
The day was also well spent with Mandarin class given to the children. Simple sentences such as thank you, nice to meet you, hungry, full, greetings were taught. The children were learning way toooo fasttttttttttt. They can easily remember the pronunciation and meaning of those Chinese sentences, and they used it correctly!!! I'm so happy to see this, as I'd been assigned as fixed facilitator of group 3. I taught them slowly and patiently, hoping they could get the small little techniques in getting the pronunciations correct. Lastly, I felt grateful as the children in my group remembered those sentences hard and used it correctly <3 Hopefully they won't forget it even if the event had been ended.
Another awesome activity during the day will be Explorace. It was a station-based game. The group which passed all 5 stations' missions in the shortest time will win the race. The game turned out to be easier for my group as there were two teenagers - Kamil and Syakir which are elder compared to the other children in my group, and they did help a lot in leading the younger children to finish the game. They really co-operated well, with lots of communications among themselves to get the missions done, as facilitators were not allowed to help and give clues to the children in the first 10 minutes of each station. It's really glad to see this phenomenon in them - communication is the best way to get things solved, instead of arguments.
We also did cheers for our groups. The process was fun as we put a lot of humour elements inside, such as... NYAMUK!!! (my friend, Chiaw Qing's nickname.. haha!) We practised repeatdly for the cheers as it would be performed during closing ceremony.
The day was ended with dikir barat performance by the children. The performance was nice, but.... The lyrics made me feel touched, and also with complexion of sadness, guiltiness and sympathy. The line of lyrics "Kami pergi ke sekolah dengan berjalan kaki...." lifted those feelings in me. Walking to school seems normal to us, as the school is just nearby. But when I think of the time I went to school, fetched by my parents, I felt sympathetic towards the children in NURI. In the meantime, I found how lucky I am, with my parents' companion by my side when I was little. But still I argued with my parents sometimes. The children in front of me were without parents. I was wrong.....

DAY 3
The final event day. A day with complexion of feelings again. Happy because it's time for us to go home after the event; Sad because it's the last day of the programme that we spent time with the children....
The day was same as the previous, started off with Shazrul's lead in senaman pagi. The children were also entertained by the fast rhythms and laughed because some "weird" actions were made. Haha! Then, Sin Hui conducted an English class, teaching the children some simple sentences. What shocking was, the children were taught well in English before! Most of them could use the vocabulary taught correctly. That was amazing.
However, the day was not full with laughter all the day, as majority of the chidren were brought to attend another event. We had half of the day, turned out to be quieter as compared to the second event day. The children left at NURI home, were entertained by some games conducted by Shazrul. Then, the funniest part came - the Mystery Box!!! We, the facilitators yell and scream while the children trying to put their hands into the box, to pretend there was something geli in the box ahhahahahahaahhaahhaha XD Some of their ran away because they were just way too scared!!! Ouchhh so cute hahahahahahahah!
Sadly to tell but, the day rained in the evening while we were about to start our closing ceremony. We quickly moved everything inside and we had our closing ceremony in the house. One mystery part during the ceremony was, when emcee - Erni asked everyone to close their eyes and some child would be asked to give reflection one by one. The truth was ---- 3 birthday cakes were prepared for the February, March and April babies!!! Everyone was happy to see the cakes with lit candles upon opening their eyes. Somehow, the children who attended another event came back when the cake was sliced.... I didn't notice but I was told their faces looked so disappointed, because they couldn't join the celebrity.... Hmm....
Time passed by fast and finally it's time to go. Before I left, Wafeeq -- a child in my group, gave me a swiss roll (unpacked from their hamper)!! I was so happy to receive the swiss roll!! It was a simple gift, but it was indeed meaningful to me -- my effort as facilitator for the group was appreciated by them. Many children cried while we left, and begged for our visit in the future... ='( Sad but still we stepped onto the van, headed back to KK5...
A few of us tore during the last post-mortem. We apologized and thanked each other for what we did for this programme. We had our words in heart spoken out. Then, finally, the programme was ended with wishes for a happy holiday.

This programme, was firstly not so expected by me, but at the end, it has become one of the most memorable programmes that I've been involved in during my university life. And through this event, I've learned much more about each of my coursemates. Finally I'm familiar with all of their names hahahahahahahahaha. Nice to meet all of you!
